ValuePark Terneuzen

The Value Park, on the west side of Dow Terneuzen, covers 140 hectares and is targeted at companies that have a clear added value for the chemical industry. The convenient location is attractive for companies: the park has direct connections to the railroad, the road network and international waterways. In addition, the park is connected to Dow by means of a pipeline bundle.

Establishing a site at the Value Park is interesting for buyers and suppliers of Dow Benelux, and for companies involved in the storage, packaging or distribution of Dow products.

A number of storage and transshipment companies have already established themselves at the park, such as Ravago, Vos Logistics and Katoen Natie. Evos is also located at the Value Park and Bertschi operates a rail terminal.

Maintenance Valuepark

In recent years, more than 20 maintenance companies have established themselves at the Maintenance Value Park, close to the entrance of the Westerscheldetunnel in Terneuzen. The Maintenance Value Park is a competence center for the broad process industry in the region. From the new location adjacent to the Dow Benelux site, companies cannot only deliver their services to Dow but also to various other process industries. In addition to cost benefits, clustering encourages innovation through knowledge transfer and synergy between the different companies. The Knowledge and Innovation Center Maintenance Process Industry (Kic MPI) also has an important role to play in this. The Maintenance Value Park is located next to the enormous chemical facilities of Dow Benelux and Trinseo, in the Dutch-Flemish Delta where the largest chemical cluster in Europe is located.

Service Center

The Service Center that provides support to customers and the Dow organization in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India has more than 1,100 employees with a total of more than 50 nationalities. They are housed in the Terneuzen Diamond Center, an eye-catching office building. From there, customers and colleagues are supported throughout the EMEAI region. The diverse and inclusive working environment provides a fresh outlook, new perspectives and an original way of thinking.

Pipeline

Dow manages approximately 220 kilometers (137 miles) of underground pipelines for the transport of ethylene, naphtha and propylene. These pipelines are located between Dow Terneuzen, the port of Antwerp and the Botlek area in Rotterdam. The transport of chemical products by pipeline makes transport by train, truck and ship redundant. It is by far the most fast, sustainable, efficient and quiet way of transporting our products. Safe for people and the environment. The Pipeline Management department ensures this safety. In cooperation with farmers, local residents and operators of nature reserves.

Booster stations pump the raw materials through the pipelines under pressure. As the pipes contain high-risk raw materials, it is important that the pipes are not damaged. For this reason, the Pipeline Management department takes strict safety measures. The pipes rise above the ground in a number of places. This is where the valve posts are located, placed there by the department. The valve posts are fitted with measuring equipment. This equipment measures both the temperature in, as well as the pressure on, the pipes. Supervisors from the Pipeline Management department read the data from this measuring equipment in Terneuzen. They do this from the control room on the Dow site, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Contact with landowners
The pipelines run under pieces of land belonging to different owners. The department likes to keep the best possible contact with these landowners. Crops that grow above the pipelines can suffer crop damage. If this happens, Dow compensates the landowners. It is important for landowners to be aware that a pipeline runs under their land. White and red posts show where the pipes run. These posts also display the telephone number on which the Pipeline Management department can be reached.

Safety during work activities
Anyone who is planning to build or dig in the vicinity of the pipelines must inform Dow. The Pipeline Management department will check whether the work could cause damage to the pipes. Department supervisors regularly drive along the route of the pipelines to carry out checks. On a weekly basis, they also monitor from a helicopter whether anyone is carrying out unreported work in the vicinity of the pipelines.

  • The Netherlands: Digging conditions from Velin:
Anyone who is planning to excavate, build, etc. in the vicinity of the pipelines must submit the excavation notification (KLIC) and meet the conditions in the letter from Dow as well as the conditions from Velin
  • Belgium: Digging conditions from Fetrapi:
Anyone who is planning to excavate, build, etc. in the vicinity of the pipelines must submit the excavation notification (KLIP) and meet the conditions in the letter from Dow as well as the conditions from Fetrapi

Dow Delfzijl

Dow Delfzijl siteDow Delfzijl has been distilling Crude MDI for over 50 years, which is produced and supplied from Dow locations in Stade, Germany, and Estarreja, Portugal.

Dow Delfzijl is the largest isocyanate production site of Dow worldwide. With the three distillation towers, Methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), an important basic raw material for polyurethane (PU), is separated to be further processed as a basic raw material for the PU industry.

Applications for PU can be found everywhere: in car dashboards, mattresses, sports shoes, sports hall floors, garden chairs, and various insulation materials, to name a few.

Dow Delfzijl has three distillation towers, a prepolymer reactor, and a liquified MDI process. Additionally, there is an in-house technical service and production laboratory.

MDI is packaged on-site in drums, IBCs, and/or containers before being delivered to the customer.

Dow Dordrecht

Dow Dordrecht siteIn Dordrecht, Dow produces plastic through extrusion, which is used in the medical and food industries, such as Surlyn®, Bynel®, and Fusabond®.

The Surlyn line started production in 1995 and has been part of the Dow family since 2019. In addition to the Surlyn line, a second line was built in 2011 where Modified Polymers are produced, which are products from the Bynel® and Fusabond® family.

Surlyn® is mainly used in various packaging but also other applications due to its unique composition. Bynel® and Fusabond® are used as adhesive layers in packaging.

The raw materials come from Dow locations worldwide and leave the site as pellets via either lined boxes (Surlyn) or bulk trucks (Modified Polymers).

Dow Dordrecht is a dynamic location with two production lines, where most activities take place indoors. Raw materials are stored at a third party and shipped to Dordrecht on demand. Our operators perform end-product analyses in a well-equipped laboratory, with support from Dow Terneuzen. The maintenance team takes care of daily maintenance, making extensive use of external parties and support from Terneuzen. This allows us to work efficiently and effectively, with a strong focus on quality and collaboration.
